Getting the right medicine to the right person
Our work has one goal: that a prescription never goes unfilled for lack of money. Here is how we go about it.
Free medicines for patients
Patients who cannot afford their medicines can come to us with a valid prescription. After a simple check, we provide the medicines free of charge, either in full or for as long as we are able to support the course of treatment.
- Medicines for acute illness and recovery after hospital treatment
- Regular monthly support for long-term conditions
- Priority for elderly patients and families in financial crisis
A medicine bank fed by the industry
Pharmaceutical companies, distributors and pharmacies often hold stock that is perfectly good but will not sell in time. Through our trustees’ relationships across India, we collect these medicines well before expiry, check them, and put them to use.
- Every item checked for seal, batch number and expiry date
- Stored and recorded the way a licensed pharmacy would
- Matched to prescriptions, not handed out at random
Reaching communities
Many people who need help never hear about it. We work with community groups, workers’ organisations, clinics and local volunteers so that information about the Trust reaches the families who need it most.
- Referrals from doctors, clinics and hospitals
- Awareness through community and workers’ groups
- Volunteers who help patients with the request process
Safety comes first
Giving the wrong medicine, or an unsafe one, would do more harm than good. These rules apply to every medicine we handle.
Valid prescription
We give medicines only against a current prescription from a registered doctor.
Sealed and in date
No opened packs, loose tablets or medicines close to expiry.
Recorded
Every medicine received and given out is logged by batch and expiry.
Handled by experience
Our trustees and volunteers include people from pharmacy and distribution.
